Ceramic Blue Spotted Turquoise Quail
French potter Heidi Caillard is well-known for her lively ceramic hens, Guinea fowl and quail. Each quail begins its journey in the clay pits of Lussan, France, where the earth is sustainably sourced, hand sifted and then poured into the molds that form the fowl. Once formed, each quail is hand painted — this one in electric blue and turquoise glazes — and then signed before it is fired a second time, to ensure a glossy finish. For more than 40 years, Caillard’s ceramics have been sought-after items among interior decorators and collectors; they hold their value. This offering is part of Shinbone Alley’s exclusive collection of ceramic fowl. Ceramic fowl, chickens, and hens have been home decor favorites for many decades, because of their versatility and adaptability to any style — from rustic to shabby chic to modern to eclectic.
